ELLSWORTH - Craig Gladstone, President of Gladstone's Under The Sun, a specialty food company in Hancock, Maine has been selected by the U.S. AID Farmer to Farmer Program to travel this month to The Republic of Georgia to consult with fruit and berry growers on fruit drying and value added marketing.
Gladstone's Under The Sun is currently the only commercial wild blueberry dryer in the state of Maine. Their wild blueberry drying process that uses no sugar began operations in October 2008 with the assistance of a Maine Technology Institute Development Award and outside investors.
The company's president was chosen for the program due to the company’s proprietary, innovative, and healthy processing method. In addition, the company’s successful lines of wild blueberry products, marketed under the Caviar of Maine®, and line of snack mixes called Maine Munchies® represent the value added opportunities the Georgian farmers are seeking for their own crops.
After Craig spends 10 days in Georgia, he will stop in Dubai to exhibit at the annual Gulfood Show held from February 21st to the 24th. The company will be exhibiting in a booth sponsored by the Maine International Trade Commission.
